Arlan Thomas

Owner:Arlan Thomas

The Thomas Family: Arlan, Julie, Anthony, and Alex.

Arlan Thomas is a small family owned and operated winery. The family has searched for the best climates to make the best Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel. While knowing that they cannot compete with the larger wineries based upon bulk production and sales, they strive to compete and beat them on quality. All of their wines are handcrafted in small batches, this allows more control and higher quality. This philosophy takes more work and dedication but they believe you will see that in the finished product. Arlan Thomas winery is the best that California can offer.

Arlan Thomas winery is located in Le Grand, California and was established in 2006. Our wines are simple and we let their flavors express themselves.

The winery uses grapes that they grow as well as purchased grapes. They choose to grow Chardonnay grapes, the grapes that they buy are Zinfandel from Oakley, and Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. They source grapes from these locations because it is impossible to replicate the climate and quality found in those areas. The Thomas family feels that those areas are perfect for these varietals.

The history behind the winery is not long but the history behind the family is. The beginning of the family is Arlan Thomas , the owner of the winery. He attended CSUF (California State University Fresno) for both his BS in viticulture (grape growing) and his Masters degree in Plant Science with an emphasis on soils. During his studies he met his future wife Julie Asami. Julie was studying for her Masters who then began teaching after her time at Fresno State.
Together they were blessed with two sons, Alex the older and Anthony the younger. Alex followed Arlan and Julie by attending Fresno State and receiving a BS in Enology (winemaking). Anthony is also following in the steps of his father by attending Merced JC. In the falls he has been working as a sugar sampler.
Arlan Thomas has been involved in agriculture his whole life. He has been fortunate enough to grow from very little into an owner/ farmer of almonds, walnuts, figs, and grapes. As Alex attended Fresno State the idea of starting a winery was hatched. The winery was officially licensed in 2006 and the first vintage was in 2007. The first labels were recently approved and printed in 2009.
